Medical Clinic

The medical clinic, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Florian Krötz, is in charge of internal medicine. While the clinic addresses a number of therapeutic and diagnostic fields, such as diabetes and infectious diseases, special emphasis is placed on cardiology, gastroenterology and nephrology. Additionally, the clinic also boasts a hypertension center.

Cardiology
Invasive, interventional, non-invasive

Range of cardiology services:

  • Diagnostics and interventional therapy of coronary heart disease through balloon dilatation and stent implantation (including chronic occlusions)
  • Around the clock care of heart attacks through immediate cardiac catheterization or monitoring of patients in the certified Chest Pain Unit
  • Diagnostics and treatment of heart valve defects (including invasive diagnostics)
  • Diagnostics and therapy of severe heart failure including preparation for heart transplantation
  • Diagnostics and treatment of pulmonary hypertension
  • Diagnostics and treatment of all cardiac arrhythmias (including interventional electrophysiology)
  • Pacemaker and defibrillator therapy, including biventricular stimulation (CRT therapy), implantation of all devices
  • Diagnostics and treatment of inflammatory or infectious heart diseases
  • Diagnostics and therapy of pregnancy-associated cardiovascular diseases (in collaboration with the gynaecology department)
  • Diagnostics and treatment of congenital heart defects
  • Special diagnostics and therapy of patients with severe arterial hypertension (including diagnosis of secondary types of hypertension)

Hypertension Center


The certified hypertension center is primarily an inpatient center that treats patients with critically elevated blood pressure levels (blood pressure > 220/120 mmHg). These can and often do included patients who have suffered from a stroke, cardiac insufficiency or renal insufficiency.

Patients interested in outpatient hypertensive care are encouraged to schedule private consultations with Prof. Dr. Florian Krötz and Prof. Dr. Schobel (Nephrologist).

Nephrology

  • Diagnostics and treatment of all renal illnesses including renal failure and accompanying/long-term complications (anemia, vitamin D bone metabolism disorder, acid/base and water electrolyte imbalances)
  • Renal involvement in systemic illnesses (diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases, rheumatic illnesses)
  • Secondary and hard to adjust high blood pressure
  • Renal and blood pressure illnesses during pregnancy
  • Preparation and aftercare regarding renal transplants
  • Care of dialysis patients

Gastroenterology

For the treatment of gastroenterological illnesses, the following diagnostic and therapeutic options are available:

  • Endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic/interventional)
  • Sonography (diagnostic and interventional/punctures, drainages) including color Doppler
  • Gastroenterological laboratory with:prolonged pH measurements 13 C urea breath test (helicobacter, gastric emptying, liver function)
  • H2 breath test. Bowel transit time
  • Radiology diagnostics and therapy in cooperation with the private radiology practice in the hospital
  • Nutritional therapy (enteral nutrition, PEG/PEJ tube attachment, nutritional pumps) in collaboration with the gastroenterology practice in the policenter
  • Intensive care
